Dorchester - Dorset Towns & Villages

Dorchester. What is it famous for? Well, it has spawned a couple of great poets and novelists; a significant player in the settlements in New England; a royal surgeon to four monarchs (and friend of John Merrick - the 'Elephant Man'); and an architect or two. It is home to Elizabeth Frink sculpture; the remains of a Roman town house; the Crown Court of the feared Judge Jeffrey's... and a few Roman mosaics. Not bad for a rural farming town. Today, Dorchester is a bustling county town. The infrastructure of Dorset's major roads spider from the heart of the old Roman town and, consequently, it has that lovely feel of market day throughout the week.
